"If the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable" - Myles Monroe.
This is what comparisons do. It makes us fight what God is calling us to be.
Some of us doubt hearing God. But what if God has been speaking to you and because of all the expectations you have come up with while comparing yourself to others, you have ignored all He has been saying leaving us in a mess because we began to question things and get irritated when things are not going the way they should.
Comparisons block out what is necessary and leave us chasing unnecessary things in the hope to be like the other person. It makes us people-pleasers, self-haters, and haters of others. We will never find contentment or appreciate ourselves when we compare because you are you and can never be the other person. That is why you cannot fit anywhere because you are trying to be someone else and not you.
Comparisons do not make us improve on ourselves because we are spending so much time observing other people and not ourselves to know what areas we need improvements on. You are you so you know where the shoe pinches but comparisons numb the pain of the pinch and just because it is numb does not mean the pain isn't present and it won't go away till you stop looking at other people and attend to your pinch.
This is why looking up to God is what we should do. The image we should thrive to go after is Christ. Even when we start paying attention to ourselves, it is not enough we cannot know everything about ourselves. This is something that only the Father knows. He knows you more than you and when we start spending time with Him, He begins to reveal everything you need to know about you.
By knowing Him, you begin to know yourself till you become that image of Christ He sees in you.
Do not be afraid when He even reveals the nasty side of you. It is to get rid of it. God reveals both the good and bad aspects of ourselves to us. Most of us pay attention to the good and not the bad. He doesn't do this so that we can feel condemned or ashamed but to get rid of the seeds He did not plant in you. It has to come out to make room for the seeds He planted in you to grow. So let us cast down the fear of the changes that occur within and around us when God begins to work on us.
Spend time with God and know who you are in Him and that includes both the good and the bad. Do not be frightened by the bad. Remember that He has the nature of turning what was meant for evil to become good. Your weaknesses reveal His strength; Just like it says:
"My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
(2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV).
Know that God wants us to love ourselves and we can only do that when we have spent time with Him to learn how to love because God is love (1 John 4:7). So stop comparing, get to know God, and grow.
